T-3 Turbo Install
« on: January 23, 2008, 07:15:47 am »
Will a T3 turbo off a Mercedes Benz 300TD fit or work as an upgrade to my 1.6TD. Will it not have the right internals to work with the vw 1.6? or will the 1.6 have a hard time spooling it? Is it even a direct bolton? If anyone has tried or is running this setup feedback will be much appreciated. Thanks Paul

It's not a direct bolt on due to different turbo and downpipe flanges from my understanding

Thats what I am putting on mine.  My engine will flow a lot more than stock though.  I have a AAZ head that Dave has done the big port job on and a giles pump to go with it.  You also need to check which turbo you have, as there are 3 variations of that turbo on the 300td.

BYM is correct. It will not bolt up with out modification.  I went with a different exhaust manifold.  A ATP 8V turbo manifold. Here is a link to what it looks like:

Thanks, I kind of figured it was to good to be true for it to be a direct bolton. Thanks Paul

How are the T3 turbos that came with 1.6 TD. Are they too laggy? Or do they spool well and make good power on the 1.6TDs?

From my experience on the 1.6 the spool around 3000 RPM with stock settings and light driving
