I'm making a exhaust header for my 1981 vw rabbit with dual outlets for dual exhaust. Where should I put the pyrometer in the header for a good reading?
Close to the head. You will loose heat dramatically the further away you are.
Which cylinder would be the best one to put the sending unit.
curious... any reason why No2?
Well cause Nitrogendioxide would be a really hard place to mount something solid
Oh, sorry. I would say 1 or 2 because they get the hottest. Farthest away from the oil pump and such.
I would think #2 or #3. They always seem to crap out first in my experience. Install 4 pyros
After my sand experiment, I'd say #3 gets the most air, so might run slightly cooler than #2, which is my basis for #2 over #3. Of course air doesn't have the mass of sand so it may be more equal than I give it credit for.
I have ported and polished the head. Knowing that would you still say #2 cylinder over #3 cylinder.
