i was reading my bentley and it said that the 16v also has the oil squirters. does anyone know if it would be possible to just use that block. it seems that it would be easier to source a 16v block rather than a td block
the squirters are different from the td squirters also.
16v have 81mm bore.
MJF.....I am still anxious to hear some details with respect to your 200HP IDI. How did you achieve this?
Thanks in advance.

there was a guy on vwvortex that used a td block for his gasser
The diesel blocks are a lot beefier then the gassers from what I hear due to the extra stress in the diesel engine.
What are you planning?
If the stroke is the same, I bet you could sleeve it and fit some 1.7 pistons in assuming the deck height is right. Also assuming my remembering that a 1.7 piston has the same stroke and is 79.5mm dia is correct.

http://vwdiesel.net/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=10797&start=60How different are the 1.8 Jetta 2 blocks from the 1.6 diesel blocks?
1.8 Gas bore * stroke 81 * 86.4 mm
1.6 Diesel bore * stroke 76.5 86.4
Is the height of the block the same? Has anyone ever heard of a gas to diesel conversion with cylinder sleeves? Does anyone know what the diesel to gas differences are?
Are the diesel blocks so rare there? I mean is it worth all the sleeving etc. These are junk metal to me
Thanks MJF for pointing me to your past post about performance mods.
I noticed that in your rebuilt TD you have used a crankshaft from a 1.6 instead of a 1.9's. Are they the same?. Any reason? Is the 1.6 crankshaft's throw shorter than the 1.9's?

They are somewhat rare here in the States. Sounds like Canada got many more than we did, probably because of the Olds Diesel.
