I am curious if anyone knows how this ebay head compares in quality to the one being offered on the for sale section on here as a group buy. This one on Ebay is cheaper in price, is it also cheaper in quality?
Thanks...

Thats probably a AMC head. Amc is a big company in Spain that makes and sells alot of heads. I've heard about Vw aircooled type 4 heads that they make are good quality castings but some of the hardware is problematic. ie valves, springs, retainers. I've even heard that seats fall out of the aircooled ones.
A head rebuilder on TdiClub (franko6) says that new AMC heads are worse than a rebuilt head. Even if major welding had to be done to the core head before it was rebuilt. Even if lifter bores broke when the piston hit the valves and even if valves broke out the seats.
MAJOR WELDING.
That seems a stong indicator to me. Or maybe he just wants the work.
Edit: Here's the thread discussing heads

I got one a while ago, though it was cheaper I think. It was made in Mexico, but was an actual VW head. My engine recently died, though I doubt it was the head's fault. See

for pics. Let me know if you have any specific questions about it.

Ah yes, the 1.9 head from ecstyling on e-bay. I tried to buy one of those a while back. Here is what I suggest you do.
1. Ask them who the actual maker is.
2. Ask them to give you the part number off the head. You will notice that in the photo's there is no number on the head.
3. Ask them in detail what is included in their "complete head".
I will refer you to this post so you can see my efforts in dealing with them.
It's 2 pages worth. Read it, and then you decide which head you should buy. I went with the group buy head. OEM Kolbenschmidt. Great price for a new head. 2 left. See the pictures and the review on the group buy link.
My 2 cents.
Jim

I was wondering if this was the same guy Jim but I didn't want to say anything without knowing for sure.
Don't count on them shipping to Canada without a huge hassle

Just thought of this. Shipping is included in the group buy head. Shipping from Mr. ecstyling is like an additional 60-80 bucks on top of his asking price. Makes the price difference very small. Cheap wang POS or OEM Kolbenschmidt. You make the call.
