I am looking for this forums opinions on the best manual for my 89 Jetta. I am the kind of person that likes to do the work myself if it is not to technical. I would like a manual that is used by the mechanics that would work on the vehicle. Could someone please give me some choices. Looking for something a little above and beyond the Chilton manual.
Thanks,
John
1989 Volkswagen Jetta diesel 1.6NA
Bentley manuals are the best by far.
Bentley manuals (available both in print and electronic format) are based on the actual VW factory information (they at least WERE the factory manual in my days around the shop). Any other manual I have seen is pretty inaccurate or incomplete.
I read a review of the Bentley 1989 Jetta manual that said that it did not have much info on the diesel engine. Can anyone contradict that?
John
I've got my Bentley here, and there are 24 pages on the diesel fuel system, and 46 pages covering the engine (both gasoline and diesel). It says right on the cover Volkswagen GTI, Golf, Jetta Service Manual gasoline, diesel and turbo diesel. It covers 1985 - 1992. ISBN number is 0-8376-0342-0. Check your local library to see if they have a copy so you can check it out for yourself.
Best manual is this or one of the other fora. Many have read the Bentley and found it's faults...
