so this is the info i was given on the setup altho i dont think ide run a 1.5 head.. anyways im wondering the worth of a setup like that.. what i should offer him, and how long can an IP sit not being used rebuilt and still be ok..(hes had it sitting now for a year) i think ive read on here somewhere that they can only sit for so long before they would need a rebuild.. or maybe they can only sit dry for so long... i dunno.
any help and opinions would be great.. looking to possibly pick this up and drop it in my 80 caddy.
The block is a true TD with piston oil squirters and the proper turbo oil return. The pistons are still standard, all it needed was a flash hone and rings. The crank was polished so it is still std/std with new bearings installed. After checking the block for warp I measured the piston protrusion and it only needs a 1 notch head gasket. It looks like this is the first time the motor was apart.
The head is a rebuilt 1.5L N/A diesel unit. The only real difference we could find is the oil return on the head is cast smaller on the 1.5L and the non-turbo motors didn't have sodium filled exhaust valves. The head is not final torqued so if you wanted to you could get away with reusing the bolts and possibly the head gasket. I didn't feel the need to go through this since diesel VW heads have a real tendency to crack around the valve seats.
The motor is in long block form with tin in a plastic bag in my basement so it isn't getting weathered or dirty.
The pump was professionally rebuilt along with the injectors.
The tranny seemed fine without any noise or hard shifting. It is a 5 speed wide ratio for the diesel car.
I was doing some playing with the turbo... I have a T3 compressor that will bolt to the factory hot side but it will require flipping the exhaust manifold and using a gas intake with a special throttle body flange I found to accomplish. The turbo could also just be put back together in stock form and leave everything alone.
find out what code is stamped on the block? CY,MF,or something else? those 2 codes are common here in the states and they should have squirters!
sounds like pump was rebuilt and never used? that should be fine it can sit for a while with assembly fluid in it! if thats the case? pics. would help me tell you more? me personally i would not use the 1.5 head either! oil passage is too small and for breathing you will get all the 1.5 blowby issues i'm sure?
see if he had the old TD head for the valves? well i think it's worth 200bucks and thats generious on my part! start at 150bucks? also depends if he has intake and exaust pipes and etc.?
thanks Duane
thanks for the info.
ima go take a look at it tomorrow evening or on sun, and ill grab the codes then.
