TDI Trans Problems 02A or 02J trans

hey guys been a while since I have been on, but here is my problem. the other night I went to do a burn out with my TDI caddy I have the TDI cable shifted trans in it I cannot remember if its the 02J or 02A at the moment. it started to spin the tires with ease as ussual and right when I went to hit the clutch and put it into 2nd to keep spining it was like I missed a gear and there I sat. I went to get it going again and I cannot put it into 1st at all. It feels like the shifter hits a brick wall when I go to put into 1st. All other gears work great and there is no grinding noises or anything. I drove it home and then to my parents place for the weekend and no troubles yet.
I tried disconnecting the shifting linkage and shifting it into 1st by hand under the hood and same thing as what I expirience with the shifter. I am stumped and hope that I did not tear 1st gear up.
what do you guys think, winter is fast approaching and i cannot afford to drive my 12 mph GMC that I store in the winter.
thanks in advance for the help. I always could put the old FF 5 speed in if absolutely necessary but would like to avoid that since I think this TDI will rip it apart.

O2a transmissions are really common for breaking the 2nd gear synchro. I have one apart right now (Raddo unit) and I can see why it breaks. Its paper thin.
But you say it wont go into 1st..you mean when you are at a stand still?? Sounds like something internal broke.
Ship it down here and Ill rip into it

when I say that it wont go into first I mean that when you feel the shifting pattern its like the factory completely blocked off the spot for 1st gear. it doesnt even start to slip into place at all.
if you have the shifter in the neutral position and pull it left up to the reverse wall (that you have to go under to get it into reverse) and then push it forward for 1st, there is no forward movement allowed by the transmission only back into second
how bad are these transmissions to tear apart and does anyone have 1st gear parts or know where to get them?

They arnt too bad if you have the correct tools. If not I woudlnt try it. I had a bunch of 020 tools and I had to extensivly modify one to make it fit.

do you think that 1st is gone or do you think that its something with the internal linkages?
I guess what would you do if you were in my situation for checking into it?

Id contact Broke on vwvortex and find out how far away his home in Ohio is to you and take it to him.
ANY transmission place is going to rape you or just tell you to go away. Best finding a little guy.
Like I said..if you want to ship it here Ill pull it apart and see whats bad. It would take me about 30 min to get it torn apart.
