in my experience the empty cat acts like a resonating chamber, and give the exhaust an objectionable note, it creates turbulence that causes it to be heard in the car a lot more and the tailpipe sounds like it's babbling. I'd dump the cat altogether.
tell her to walk  my 1.9 has a K14 turbo and it is quiet man, i wonder why yours is so loud, what kind of car do you drive? straight pipes for life!
Flowmasters flow bad for non-turbo engines and are just plain restrictions for turbo engines.
The best mufflers are absorption types that flow straight through. They muffle well and do not restrict flow.
I was tempted by the straight-through glasspacks, but I've heard that they don't do much for resonance... which was a big issue in my case.
The Cherry Bomb "Turbo" is a good compromise. Sounds good.
The car is a 96 1.9TD with a K24, running on vegetable oil.
Now it's all the random rattling buzzing and wind sound that I have I am trying to eliminate.
Ha! You should hear my Samurai turbo-diesel. It's the only vehicle I've ever owned who's top speed is determined by wind noise.
So who'd posting behind thw GreaseCar name? Is it Justin? I would love to get down there someday to see your facilities.
