I have had the 1.9 TD on the road for about 3500kms after putting on a new head and timming belt. I have noticed that when i get over 3500rpms the pedal starts vibrating a lot.....and I can hear that the engine is making a vibrating noise aswell.....the timming is set to 1.00mm....injectors are rebuilt....car makes about 800km per tank in the city. I just want to know if it could possibly be the pump....this is my main form of transportation and I dont want to be stranded.
Cheers, Michal

mine never did any of that but when my pump started to get bad it would be hard to start after sitting around for a day, got the pump rebuilt and everything is good.

pedal vibrations... would that be caused by the injection pump?

I'd be more inclined to think you have worn bushings or motor mounts. Does it only happen at high speeds or at high RPMs?

Take a look at your drive line for worn axle cv joints, loose axle couplers, wheel bearings, strut mount bearings or lower ball joints. Maybe you have even lost a wheel balance weight? I am assuming that when you hit this 3500 rpm that you have a load on the engine as in in gear and rolling down the road?

I checked all that...it all seems fine...it happens only above 3500 rpm in any gear at any speed. I do need motor mounts....but i dont think it could be cause by that......especially since it only happens at high rpm....I have new motor mounts sitting in the garage (no time to install) which I plan to change after this semester of school....along with clutch and tranny!!!
Thanks for all the replies...I will try and change out the mounts and see what happens!!!!!

Have you looked for the infamous 1.9TD crank pulley wobble?
Does it vibration stop if you rev it to 3500 and the push in the clutch (of course let off of the loud pedal as you push in the clutch).
If it continues the nasty vibration it is definitely drive-line.

I have taken care of the pulley wobble with some dowel pins!!!! and the vibration does stop when i press the clutch in....thats why im thinking its something to do with the injection pump......

Loose injection pump bolts have caused vibration,... and the little bracket between the alternator bracket and injection pump bracket has caused buzzing/vibrations at about that rpm.... that was a hard one to find because the noise came from everywhere.
I'm only familiar with the 1.6 and am not sure what your alternator bracket looks like.

I jsut double checked all the bolts on the pump and they are all tight.....I also replaced the motor mounts. I try not to go over 3000 rpm but I wanted to turn up the fuel and boost a little to make the car a little faster....but i dont want to do that if there is problems with the IP.
I found a sweet deal on a rebuilt pump about 50k km ago....but i dont want to jsut go and change it and find out that it wasnt the problem.
Thanks for all the replies...I will keep checking everything....I know I need a tranny and a clutch....but i dont think they would be causeing the vibration above 3500 rpm.

I just did the motor mounts in my AAZ...what a world of difference...it's as smooth as a gasser now!
Make sure you have 3 long extensions to get at the bolt on the rear passenger side mount...just pull the air intake line to gain access...much easier than trying to fight with it from under the car. My bolts were mega tight too...

i wish my car was really smooth after doing my motor mounts, still shakes really bad
