Cold Temp Coolant Heater
« on: November 06, 2007, 06:40:06 pm »
I want to try and install a coolant heater for those single digit mornings on my '80 Rabbit.  Anybody have an idea of what hose your suppose to splice?  Im trying to read up on these things, and Im getting confused.  Of the three smaller diameter hoses for the cooling/heating system, which one do I splice?

A - Head to heater core
B - Water pump to heater core
C - Water pump (?) to coolant reservoir

If the heater is heating the coolant wouldn't it eventually open the thermostat by virtue of thermal conductivity, regardless of where it is in the loop?

Im trying to avoid pulling a plug on the block because it looks like a major pain in the A-.  How easy of a job is this?  Are there any plugs that are accessible?  Know where I might be able to get one at a decent price?

getting yourself an auxiliary water pump from say a VR6 wouldn't be such a bad idea.

use the block heater to warm up the block, then before you go to start up the motor, turn on the pump for about a minute.

i've got plans to make a coolant thermos to store the hot coolant, and then use the 12v pump to circulate it before startup.  it would really help fight against cold start wear and tear.
