just put a series one dash into my mk1 golf and it has a rev clock which i would like to see work.  my alternator has no w terminal so was wondering how i go about wiring it up?

and my battery light is on all the time until i start the engine.  even with the keys out of the ignition

lots of previous discussion on this one... search for W-terminal and away you go.  Bottom line... you need a W-terminal somehow.

Batt light on all the time suggests a cluster issue, assuming it didn't do this in advance of the swap /?  Not quite sure what you mean by "series one" dash ??

I see the problem. That dash is totally defective, the cluster is completely on the wrong side. It's where the glove box ought to be and the glove box is where the cluster ought to be.

Must have been made at the height of Oktoberfest and the VAG employee that made that thing must have been really hungover that day.

Get a correct one, and you should be good to go.

ok i have now worked out i need a diff alternator or do an operation on mine to get the rev clock to work.  

but still cant work out why the battery light is always on?!?
