I can't imagine the guys at the local dealership treating me like that.

Me too... they love my ETKA sheets with the correct part numbers circled... on bigger items it often translates into a discount. Some days it's like an episode of Cheers.... they'll look up from their computers and shout "Vince!!!!!". Guess that means I have too many projects on the go.

I think it also helps that I don't treat them like microfiche monkeys... I've seen them get a lot of abuse from customers who are angry about prices, pissed off that they need to know whether their car is a standard or automatic, etc etc etc.... retail, no matter how you slice it, can be a tough go.
I only have good things to say about the Thunder Bay volkswagen dealership. Nicole the parts manager is awesome to talk to. She isn't afraid to order from wherever the parts are, and once when I ordered some O rings they were drop shipped to me and when they didn't show up, she ordered new ones and sent them to me no charge. 6 weeks later when the original order O rings showed up I phoned her, and told her, she said keep them. I'd drop her 1-800 number if I had it handy but I don't. Here is their regular phone # 807-344-9700.
