fifth gear ratios
« on: October 20, 2007, 02:27:21 pm »
long time lurker here--rebuilding 1.6L NA to turbo for 2 door MK1. Lightweight car with  objective of MPG and some performance. Am thinking of having transaxle rebuilt with taller 5th gear for reduction of eng. revs and subsequent increase (hopefully) in MPG. Does anyone know what the tallest 5th gear that can be easily swapped into a 82-84 transaxle. I think its an 02A but am not certain. Thanks!

why do they call it common sense if its so rare...

Thanks for the assist! It is much appreciated. Now to find a .71 fifth gear and a shop to do the work. Really do appreciate your help--this site is an addiction...
