I have a suzuki samurai w/1.6 eco td and I am having starting problems. It will crank fine for about two revolutions and start to fire but then I get alot of dark smoke and it dies. when I try to crank again the starter sounds different
like it is cranking slower but will not fire. I tried to turn the crank nut with a socket and it is really hard to turn. when it was running it was rough on start up and there was a loss of power but I still could get 15 psi of boost. I replaced the head gasket because there was oil arround the head/block mating surfaces.
It sounds like you have poor connections going to the starter and possibly your ground as well.
What do you have your timing set at?
I am going to put a new high power battery, new cables and set timing between .95 and 1.05 I will let you know what happens.
At these temperatures you don't even need 600CCAs to get the engine turning over fast enough. I'd suspect bad connections or a bad battery
I did get it started w a pump off of a 81 dasher which is gut less compared to my old pump. Other than the fuel screw any suguestions about powering up this old pump or is it the same as with all pumps. I am not looking to hot rod but I live in the mountains and need more power for the hills.
