Even when I let the car set about 30 seconds at idle, the turbo still spools down when i shut the car off. I have not noticed this in any of my previous turbo diesels. I just don't like the turbo moving after oil has been shut off. It's a 94 aaz. thanks for any input

the turbo will be turning as long as there are exhaust gasses coming from the motor, so even at idle the turbo is spinning fairly fast, and it will take a moment or two for it to come to a stop after you turn off the motor.
I wouldn't worry as there is still plenty of oil present for the moment of spinning after the oil feed is cut off.

This was of concern to me too. Starving the turbo is I believe the greatest risk we face (yes, yes, not everyone agrees). My solution (which I concede is extreme) was to set up the turbo with its own lubrication system, i.e oil can, filter, electric pump and oil radiator as well as an oil pressure and oil temperature dumb lights. If it's just coasting there no way it will damage its self due to lack of oil. If it spins that long its because the turbo is in good shape.

Surely going to the expense of fitting the turbo with it's own lube system is more expensive that the Turbo itself?
Seems a tad pointless to me.

The cost of the whole system was around $375 (from memory). My turbo cost three times that.

mine spins at shut down,nothing to worry about,just be more concerned about good quality oil,good filters,and regular changes :wink:

thanks everyone. I appreciate all the input. My little aaz is running very well and I wanted to keep it that way! I'm still a bit disappointed with the fuel mileage though, only around 36-39mpg. I figured dropping it into an a2 would have gotten me above 40. Tires are good, and it doesn't spoke when I accelerate, but I can live with it no matter what. thanks again.
