Okay,
I do quite a few AAZ to Vanagon conversions.
The way I do mine is to use most of the parts of the 1.6TD (JX) including the exhaust manifold and turbo.
I do it this way to save making bits of exhaust and the K14 is well suited to the engine and the van IMHO.
Couple of things.
the AAZ is 20mm-ish taller than the 1.6 so the oil return from the turbo is too short.
The bracket from the block to the turbo is short.
Now, my idea is to make a small adapter (15-20mm) that sits between the manifold and turbo, this will help me in 3 ways,
1. 1.6TD return line should now fit.
2. Turbo support bracket should now fit.
3. the extra space will allow drilling and tapping to suit EGT probe without having to drill the turbo or manifold.
Can anyone see any problem mounting the turbo 15-20mm further away that it is meant to?
Thats the sort of thing I was dreaming of doing, then drilling through for thermocouple.
Also, anyone know the right grade for the bolts as I will obviously need to supply longer bolts to suit.
