FS: Silver 94 Golf TD, 269,000km in GTA
« on: September 16, 2007, 08:43:37 am »
Hey guys,

It's been a while since I've posted here. Anyways I've decided to sell my Golf TD.

I bought the car in 2003 with 232,000km. It now has about 269,000km on it.

Here's the info:

1994 VW Golf 1.9 TD 5sp
Silver
4-door
Cruise, Sunroof

Engine runs well. Doesn't burn oil, hardly have to add oil during 15,000km oil changes.
Only synthetic oil used (Delvac or Amsoil) excpet for when I used Auto-RX, then I used non-syn Delvac.
Glow plugs changed two years ago.
Fuel filter changed two years ago. 95% of fuel bought from Husky at 401 & Dixie.
Acc. belt, P/s belt and acc. tensioner were changed two years ago.
Timing belt was replace by the previous owner at ~178,000km so it should be replaced soon.
Front rotors and pads were replaced last October. I've never replaced the rear. They were still in good condition 25,000km ago when I regreased the wheel bearings.
Transmission gear oil was replaced with Amsoil S2000 75W-90 two years ago.
Baterry replaced two years ago.
The body is in fair condition. There is rust in a few areas.
The driver side front and rear quarter panels have been repainted, and theres a dent in the front quarter panel.
The rear window wiper motor doesn't work.
Interior is clean and never smoked in.
New rear shocks (KYB) and springs (H&R) installed two years ago. Will include new front springs, struts and strut bearings but they
are not installed.
Two sets of wheels will come with the car. A summer set of Michelin destiny's (about 15,000km) and a winter set of Michelin Arctic Alpin's
(about 23,000km).

Exhaust system was replaced three years ago with a full stainless system that I built. It starts at the turbo with a 2.5" downtube goes to the stock catalytic converter and continues with 2.5" tube to the tailpipe. There is no muffler but it isn't really louder than the old exhaust which had a muffler.

The main reason why I'm selling the car is because it has trouble starting below -15C, even with a new 600CCA Motomaster battery.
Maybe the timing is off a little or the engine isn't turning over fast enough. Above -10C the engine starts in one crank. The stock block heater
doesn't do much either. With a better block heater or storing the car in a garage overnight the engine should start up fine. I used to drive from
Mississauga to Scarborough, 50km one way, for school but I finished two years ago and have only used the car for the previous two winters to
go to work 15k each way. I no longer drive enough to need a diesel and the fact that it's hard to start in the cold has got me looking to get a gasser.

The car is being sold as-is. It passed the e-test last time it was tested two years ago and I'm certain it will pass it again since
it doesn't smoke at all during idling. It will probably need a new rear wiper motor to get safetied but I can't think of anything else since
brakes, tires, lights, e-brake and other usual safety items are in good condition. New wiper blades, the reflex one's from canadian tire.

For those curious, my best tank was 46mpg (5.2L/100km), U.S. gallon not imperial which was about 90% highway @ 95km/h. Worst tank was about 35mpg (6.7L/100km). Longest tank was 1052km and I still had about 7 liters left, filled up with 53 liters, iirc.

I'm asking $2800 obo. Will also include 4 new glow plugs, oil filter and 5 bottles of synthetic oil to the buyer since the oil has to be changed soon.
