do i need to prime the pump?
« on: February 13, 2005, 08:44:26 pm »
when I put a rebuilt injection pump in my car, do i need to prime it or do I just start cranking and hope it starts?  Anyone done this before?  It would seem to me that running the pump completely dry would be a bad thing to do.  Also, when I first start the car with the rebuilt pump, what is the idle going to be like?  I am assuming it won't be in the right place and I'll have to adjust it?

Yes, prime the pump. I do it by putting about 5 lbs air pressure in the fuel tank, pushes the fuel to the pump. Otheres just dump fuel in the hole the intake line hooks to (after the pump is on the car).

Idle speed should be bang on if the guy that did the rebuild had a test bench. If not, you're on your own!
